When you install the Microsoft OneDrive sync app for Mac, a copy of your OneDrive is downloaded to your Mac and put in the OneDrive folder. This folder is kept in sync with OneDrive. If you add, change, or delete a file or folder on the OneDrive website, the file or folder is added, changed, or deleted in your OneDrive folder and vice versa.
To upload files to OneDrive automatically, just copy or move the files to your OneDrive folder using the Finder, or save them in your OneDrive folder from an app. Files you upload this way can be up to 250GB in size if you're signed in to a Microsoft account, or 15GB if you're signed in to a work or school account. By using a software distribution tool, you have more control over the deployment, including which users get the sync app and when. The OneDrive sync app for Mac uses the Apple Installer technology for installation allowing you to use the software distribution tools that you normally use to deploy software to Mac users. You can use Microsoft Intune. Other common tools are Jamf Pro, Munki, and AutoPkg. You can also use Apple Remote Desktop and AppleScript.
After the OneDrive sync app for Mac is installed, users can configure settings for the app. These settings are called preferences. As an administrator, you might want to provide users in your organization with a standard set of preferences. Preferences for the OneDrive sync app for Mac are stored in property list (.plist) files.

These two scripts do the same thing. Once they are deployed onto the Mac, they attempt to download the installer package and then install the Microsoft 365 Apps for Mac suite. The main benefit here is that you get additional flexibility with the installation process.
This is a sample of some code from installOfficeBusinessPro.sh which will look for a local copy of the installer before downloading from the CDN servers. You would need to handle the downloading of the latest installer package regularly. We have an example script to do this here.

If you have an older version, you should remove it and replace it with the latest version.

Setting up OneDriveAt the prompt, enter your full UW Stout email address and click Sign In.
Enter your password and press Sign In again.
The next window will ask where the OneDrive folder should be located. By default, it is nested in your home folder. This can be changed by clicking Change Location. Most users will be ok with the default location and can click Next.
There is now the option to choose which files should be synced with OneDrive. The default, and recommended, option is Sync all files and folders in OneDrive. However, you can deselect folders you would not like to sync. When your selection is complete, click Next.
Setup is now complete. You can just click Open my OneDrive or close the window.<br
